Ubisoft first released The Division, an extraction shooter under the Tom Clancy label, around 10 years ago, and, while the title had a rocky start, Ubisoft has kept the franchise alive with a sequel and several other side projects (not all of which have panned out). Now, it looks like Ubisoft is preparing to release a Definitive Edition of the game in some form or capacity.
While the project has yet to be officially confirmed by Ubisoft, advertising for a definitive edition of the game was spotted in Japan. Prizes inspired by the Division’s upcoming anniversary were also spotted, though these were prizes during a Rainbow 6 esports event, for players who participated in playing games.
The Division, which was announced as part of E3 2013 (and now serves as a depressing reminder that E3 is dead), went on to become one of the most talked-about games of that show. Despite launching in a state that is common for live-service games, including missing some content that players expected, and having a complete focus on online multiplayer, went on to break several sales records for Ubisoft. With the 10-year anniversary coming in March of this year, there seems to be a timetable we could expect Ubisoft to officially announce the project.
We also know that The Division 3 is also currently being developed, as well, something that has been confirmed for a while, though very little has been seen. During the New Game+ Showcases, it was stated by the executive produce on the series, Julian Gerighty, that “I think it will be as big an impact as Division 1 was.” The Division 2 also continues to enjoy support with various updates released for it. There is also a Mobile game for the series in development in Paris, which is set to release early this year.
