The rumored release window of February for the upcoming Elden ring DLC Shadow of The Erdtree now looks more likely thanks to a new update on the game’s Steam page.
Over two years after the game was first released to acclaim across the industry, Steam has updated the backend for Elden Ring which appears to be prepping for the DLC’s launch. As noticed by zeta50 on Resetera, SteamDB has listed the page as being updated today. As part of this update, a new file was added that is currently unused though it does bear the label DLC, assumably to serve that purpose.
At this point, there is no way to know with absolute certainty that the purpose of this is for the hotly anticipated Shadow of The Erdtree expansion, but with that being the only major content planned for the game it is hard to see that serving another purpose.
The expansion for Elden Ring was announced over a year ago with nothing beyond a teaser image shown of it. Of course, this is a FromSoft game so even if they showed nothing more and shadow-dropped it, we can expect it to still perform extremely well.
Early suggestions about the expansion have claimed they plan to release it in February, the same month that Elden Ring originally released back in 2021. This comes from an ad for Elden Ring-themed controllers aimed to launch in February 2024 to “sync with the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion release.”
Until FromSoftware feels the need to officially give us a date to expect Shadow of The Erdtree this is all just speculation, but all the pieces do seem to be fitting together.
