Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade was a game that couldn’t really hook me during the previews. I had attempted to start a previous demo at one point, making it past the tutorial with all three characters before kinda fading out. I didn’t hate the experience, honestly, the loop brought me back to a previous time in my life, playing Japanese games at work instead of, you know, actually doing work. Finally being able to commit to it this time around, though, I found I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would, despite the limitations the game places…

In fairness, my introduction to Neon Apex: Beyond The Limit almost caused me to become sick to my stomach. You start on a wireframe race track, in a wireframe city, that at blinding fast speeds felt like a strobing pulsating mess that turned my stomach upside down. The rest of the title draws heavily on 80s-influenced synthwave, with this stage in particular coming to feel more out of place as I continued having the vibe of a 70s game, you are excited to try on home console, but have only ever seen it in a black and white picture of…

Doom: The Dark Ages has reached 3 million total players since releasing last week. Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping, despite its name being anything but, commits to its bit of playing it straight. A duck that is a hard-boiled, self-narrating detective is a premise that could easily go awry, but it manages to entertain thoroughly throughout. In fact, this latest outing of Duck Detective succeeds heavily on the back of its characters and voice acting, making each interaction with the quirky cast of campers that have fallen under suspicion as the mystery continues to deepen. This is a testament to the writing that Happy Broccoli Games brings to the experience. At the start…

It is hard to put the full experience with Spellcaster University into one box. Starting up, it appears to be a straightforward Management sim, and who has never wanted to manage a magical school that trains wizards against the forces of darkness. Especially if you are a 90s kid. There was enjoyment in this, but also some mixed messages when you begin to pile genres on top of this. Following a trend in indie titles, we get a card mechanic to control the management part of the simulator, and a roguelike to diversify it further. All three of these genres…
