Nintendo has announced that they plan to support the Nintendo Switch console, on the hardware side, till at least March of 2024, They also stated that the console will continue to receive new games until March 2025. Coming on the heels of a large number of layoffs across the industry, it appears that Naughty Dog is laying off several employees. This comes in conjunction with the news that the Last of Us Multiplayer/Live Service game is currently ‘on ice’. This is just the latest in what has been a tumultuous development cycle. A season of large-scale downsizing in the video game industry is set to continue as Team17, the developer of the Worms and Overcooked franchises, as well as the Publisher of indie hits Dredge and Blasphemous, will also be laying off employees. Bloomberg has reported that Fortnite developer Epic Games is expected to lay off 16% of its workforce. In a statement from the CEO of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, he confirmed that the layoffs are expected to impact roughly 830 employees within the company.
