Ubisoft and developer Massive Entertainment have announced a new DLC story expansion for their 2023 first-person shooter title Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, set in the universe of the James Cameron film series. Entitled From the Ashes, the DLC will be released on December 19, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft+. This is the same date that the next film in the series, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is also set to release, with an overlap in theme between the two.

Speaking to IGN, Creative Director of the project Omar Bouali, stated:

From the Ashes takes place a few weeks after the events of the upcoming film Fire and Ash and roughly six months after Frontiers of Pandora and both story packs. From the Ashes is set in a ravaged and occupied version of the Kinglor Forest which includes a new sub-region, The Ravines. It mirrors the themes of the film as it sees the RDA ally with the Ash Clan, fierce Na’vi warriors who thrive on chaos and pain as they intensify their efforts to eliminate threats to their regime. So, whilst the film and expansion are set in different regions of Pandora, there is some shared DNA and we’ve worked closely with Lightstorm to ensure both pieces of Avatar media are complementary.

The trailer itself doesn’t offer much in the way of showcasing the trailer, appearing to be a CGI teaser, though the trailer states that it was captured in-engine. It features a group of Na’vi walking across a battlefield with a burned and charred tree in the distance, all with a gravelly voice offering some narration. Ubisoft has stated the story expansion will see players take the role of a new character, So’Lek, who is a battle-hardened Na’vi from the Trr’ong clan. Left for dead by the RDA and the Ash clan, which has allied with them, forcing him to set forth on a quest driven by grief and vengeance to reunite his family and hunt his enemies.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – From the Ashes will be available for $19.99 individually for players who already own the required base game. If you are looking to get the game as well, there will be a bundle for $39.99, including the base game and expansion. It will not be included in the already available Season Pass that was released alongside the main game.

In addition, on December 5, an update will be released for the game, adding multiple features, including a third-person mode and a New Game+ mode, making this a good time to finally try the title if it has been sitting in your backlog, regardless.
