Reaching an all-time high of 334,549 players on Thursday, August 7, the Battlefield 6 Open Beta is proving to be a huge success among fans of the genre. Being received with long queue times but moving fast to play the game, it has now smashed every record set by Battlefield 2042. Although unsurprising, as it did not resonate with fans of the franchise at the time, current numbers bode well for the future release of Battlefield 6.
According to SteamDB, Call of Duty’s peak was almost three years ago at 491,670 players. Considering this weekend the Open Beta will now be available for everyone and the servers hold, it is likely that Battlefield 6 will break that record and more. One of the main reasons players have been clamoring for a classic military FPS action is for a variety of reasons from its main competitor. The overreliance on Fortnite-style skins, such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or Nicki Minaj, that have no place in a shooter of its kind, the plague of hackers, or its breakneck gameplay speed, are some of the factors that players are looking elsewhere for their FPS fix.
Electronic Arts has extremely high hopes for Battlefield 6, as it was mentioned they expect to reach 100 million players, a number that the IP has never achieved before. While it does sound outlandish, the demand for the game is undeniable, looking at the current numbers. Going into the Open Beta weekend for every player with no need to watch a streamer on Twitch or preorder the game to receive access, Battlefield 6 and its positive word of mouth are poised to dominate the charts for the foreseeable future.
The Battlefield 6 Open Beta is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam, running until Sunday, August 10th, and again from Thursday, August 14th, until Sunday, August 17th. The full game will be released on October 10th, 2025, and pre-orders are available now.
