After a lengthy month of speculation and rumors, it looks like Bethesda is finally set to unveil the remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, with the announcement set to be officially made tomorrow. This comes via a post made by Bethesda on X.
The tweet itself is pretty simple, featuring the picture of a part of the face of an imperial soldier with the Roman numeral for four right above it. In fairness, it is hard to mistake this for anything else, especially given the recent leaks of in-game screenshots of an Oblivion Remake that have been circling the internet recently. At the bottom of this is simply the word tomorrow with 8am PT/ 11am ET/ 4pm BST listed for the time this event will be held.
Rumors of an Oblivion Remake have been circulating for a while now. During the FTC vs. Microsoft trial in 2023, a 2020 release schedule for Bethesda was leaked, seeming to suggest a remaster of the popular fourth entry of The Elder Scrolls series was in the works. At the time, it was listed as part of the company’s releases for the fiscal year of 2022. Of course, this didn’t come to pass, even the companies then big release Starfield was delayed, so this could have looked like plans that had been canceled or on hold. January of this year saw rumors resurface with more leaks of a full remake developed by Bethesda with help from support studio Virtuos.
While we know nothing concrete yet, rumors have suggested that the entire game is being rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5 with combat in some way inspired by that of the Dark Souls series, though how the latter has inspired it is unclear. Additionally, these leaks suggest that the game will release on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC with both a standard edition, while a deluxe edition will also be released that includes the infamous horse armor DLC. A Nintendo Switch 2 release has not been rumored at all, but given the increase in power over its predecessor, there is a possibility it will see release as well.
Either way, we only have a day to wait before all our burning questions are answered.
