Borderlands 4 from developer Gearbox Software will indeed cost $70 for the standard edition of the game. This was confirmed by Publisher 2K as pre-orders for the title go live across all platforms. The cost of this title isn’t off from what the new standard for triple-A games has been across this console generation, but is notable for making headlines following statements made by development chief Randy Pitchford made a statement about it.
Pitchford had stated at the time, amid concerns that the game might have an $80 price, that “if you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen.” There was some concern that this could happen, given that Nintendo had announced that the price of Mario Kart World would be $80 at launch, while Microsoft had similarly made statements that they would begin raising first-party titles to $80 around the holiday season. He would address this statement in subsequent tweets before ultimately apologizing, but it was a bad look following the tepid reception to its announcement.
Borderlands 4 has three versions that will be available to pre-order, with all available to pre-order now. These versions consist of the Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and the Super Deluxe Edition. All of these versions will release on September 12, 2025, with no early access for certain versions. Preordering the game will give players the Gilded Glory Pack, which will include a vault hunter skin, a weapon skin, and an Echo-4 drone skin.
The deluxe edition of the game will cost $99.99 and will include the season pass for the game, which features “four separate post-launch DLC packs, each with distinct areas, new missions, and unique bosses,” as well as vault cards, new gear, new vehicles, and cosmetics. The super deluxe edition costs $129.99 and includes everything in the deluxe edition as well as two story packs that feature new regions, a new vault hunter, and additional cosmetics.
Publisher 2K Games is also set to release Mafia: The Old Country this year, also receiving a standard and deluxe edition. In contrast to Borderlands 4, though, it will release for $49.99 for the standard edition of the game, which features a more linear experience similar to the first two games in the series.
