Fans of Capcom classic Fighting games might have forgotten, given that Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection was only recently released, Capcom has another Fighting Collection coming soon that they should be excited for. Announced during a Nintendo Direct in August the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is set to release next year, and is now available to preorder.
While the collection still has no concrete release date beyond 2025, it hopefully will not be too long before fighting fans and classic game enthusiasts can get their games on this one. It will be $39.99 at launch, slightly cheaper than Marvel Vs Capcom, and comes complete with 8 games, a few of which are very noteworthy. These games are:
- Capcom vs SNK
- Capcom vs SNK 2
- Project Justice
- Capcom Fighting Evolution
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper
- Plasma Sword
- Power Stone
- Power Stone 2
Obviously, this collection’s biggest impact comes from the inclusion of the Dreamcast classics Powerstone and Powerstone 2, two games that almost seemed lost to time. The 3D brawlers were similar in structure to Nintendo’s popular Super Smash Bros, which it has often drawn comparisons to, but managed to set itself apart in its own right. The last time these games were seen was in a Collection released for the PlayStation Portable in 2006.
While not as major an inclusion, I would also call attention to the inclusion of Project Justice. Another Dreamcast title is the sequel to Rival Schools: United By Fate, another fighting series by Capcom that has never been quite as popular as Street Fighter and Darkstalker. Capcom has begun to go back to the series more in recent years, with the Rival School character Akira appearing in the final character pass released for Street Fighter V.
Those excited to return to Capcom’s roots and play several of the franchises that made theme, Preorders are live at Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop to guarantee yourself a physical copy for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. For those looking to get it digitally, it can be wishlisted on both platforms, along with on Steam for PC players.
Historically these games have skipped the Xbox platform, however, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is planned to be released sometime in 2025 for the Xbox One as well, though this appears to be at a later date than other platforms.
