Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the debut game from developer Sandfall Interactive and Publisher Kelpher Interactive, has performed incredibly well since launch, especially for a game that only had 30 developers. The studio has made the announcement that, since launching on April 24, it has already cleared the sales milestone of 500,000 copies sold
Sandfall Interactive posted this news on the game’s official Twitter account, stating, “A milestone for us, reached sooner than we’d ever imagined. Thank you all.” This news is all the more welcome, given concerns that some had for the game’s sales following the stealth release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered only days before, given how hugely popular and anticipated the remaster was.
This was, of course, before Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 saw an influx of glowing reviews released that made clear it was going to be a special experience. It is currently sitting at a 92 on Metacritic and a 91 on OpenCritic, signalling universal acclaim. This also places it firmly in the running for Game of the Year, alongside other games like Split Fiction, Blue Prince, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II that delivered exceptional experiences in the first half of this year.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a turn-based RPG that first turned heads in 2024 with its flashy combat and stylish world. The game draws heavy influence from classic RPG franchises such as Final Fantasy and Persona, and features what I have been told is a deep and affecting story. While I am still waiting for my copy of the title to arrive in the mail, we plan to review the game as soon as we can.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. It was also released on day one of Xbox Game Pass.
