Days Gone Remastered is quickly approaching its release date, and today, Bend Studio has detailed some of the accessibility options that are coming to the updated PlayStation 5 title. This will include an interesting new feature that allows players to slow down the game’s speed during tense interactions or when feeling overwhelmed.
In a PlayStation Blog post, the Creative & Product Lead for Bend Studio, Kevin McAllister, outlined this and several other accessibility options that will feature in the game. According to him, Bend has implemented an option to adjust between several different game speeds depending on the situation, allowing the game speed to be dialed down from 100% (the standard speed) to 75%, 50%, and 25%. The aim of this, as stated by McAllister, is to ease pressure for players who struggle with high-stress situations.
He went on to say:
Game Speed is ideal for players who might feel overwhelmed in certain situations or have difficulty with various inputs in high-pressure moments, specifically fighting off hordes of Freakers. Hordes are a pillar in Days Gone gameplay and with our new Horde Assault mode arriving in the remaster, we wanted to make this unique combat experience more accessible to our players.
A core feature, and a heavy part of the advertising leading up to the original release, were the hordes that could easily overwhelm the player as they ran and gunned away from them. With the addition of Horde Assault mode, a new survival mode putting emphasis on this feature that was previously outlined in a PlayStation Blog post, this feature should help in more ways than one.
Other accessibility options that were outlined in this blog post include audio options such as Ui Narration and Collectable Audio cues, as well as visual options like the High contrast mode. All of these listed above are being added to the Remastered title, with the High Contrast Mode being a good pairing to the High Contrast HUD that the original game featured.
Days Gone Remastered will be available on April 25, 2025, for the PlayStation 5. If you already own the PlayStation 4 version, a $10 upgrade will be available.
