Elden Ring: Nightreign, the co-op PvE spin-off to FromSoftware’s game of the year-winning game, has sold 2 million copies in a day of sales. As announced by Bandai Namco, “Pre-orders and early sales have pushed the game beyond the incredible 2 million units milestone,” the publisher stated. Releasing overnight, the multiplayer title reached a peak concurrent player count of 313,593 on Steam.
This metric is incomplete, as the title has also been released on PlayStation and Xbox, with a base version costing $40. It remains to be seen how exactly the 2 million copies are distributed across the platforms. That being said, this is a big milestone to pass, even with the immense popularity of FromSoftware in the industry.
Elden Ring, for its part, remains an incredibly popular game, having sold 30 million copies since its release in 2022. In addition to that, its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, has sold 5 million copies in just three days of its release in 2024. Nightreign drastically changes the formula of its namesake, offering a 1 or 3-player roguelike experience that heavily favors co-op.
Currently, Neightreign sits at a Seventy Seven on Metacritic, compared to the Ninty Six of Elden Ring, which makes it a relatively low-received game compared to most modern FromSoftware Games. Since most audience members probably know what they are getting into with it now, regardless of review score, it will be interesting to see how it sells compared to the other titles.
Elden Ring: Nightreign isn’t the only multiplayer game that FromSoftware is currently developing, either. Currently, the studio is developing The Duskbloods exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. While not directly connected, fans have noted the game’s similarities in art style to the popular title Bloodborne, which FromSoft fans are still waiting to get a remaster.
