Nintendo announced a brand new entry in the long-running tactical RPG series Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. While it is not stated in the trailer, some elements have caused players to believe this entry might be set in the same universe as the critically acclaimed 2019 entry, Three Houses, with the god Sothis making an appearance in the trailer near the end, looking older than when previously met.
While not much of the story has been revealed at this point, the events of the game will play out perpendicular to a gladiator contest known as the Heroic Games. Along with these three characters are introduced throughout the trailer with their own motivations for fighting. It is not explicitly stated here, but these characters do give off the vibes of faction leaders, a mechanic that was central to the Three Houses game, with characters getting to choose one of three factions to fight with early on.
One drastic change from previous games in the Fire Emblem series, however, is the lack of gender selection. While players have always had a preset character in terms of look and feel, the player has been able to change that character’s gender at the start, with the previous entry, 2023’s Engage, even giving players more freedom to enter same sex relationships than previous games. Here, players will take the role of a male protagonist named Cai who states he has entered the Heroic Games in a bid to save his father.
No release date was given for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, with the trailer simply stating that it will release sometime in 2026. It was announced at an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2.
