Ghost of Yotei has managed to perform about as well as its Predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, in terms of U.S. sales, analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed. Sony has yet to reveal concrete numbers on the global sales figures for Ghost of Yotei, which launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive on October 2, 2025, which means the only insight we currently have is regional data from sales analysts who are unable to confirm any hard figures.
Piscatellla, who works for Circana, took to social media to talk about the commercial performance of the latest title from developer Suckler Punch, claiming it did “perfectly fine… Not amazing, not bad.” This is in comparison to Ghost of Tsushima, which was released during the global COVID-19 pandemic on the PlayStation 4 in July of 2020. Five years later, and Ghost of Yotei appears to be closely matching it in terms of dollar sales, in terms of revenue rather than unit sales. During the title’s launch week in the U.S, it appeared to be down by only a single digit percent compared to its predecessor. This implies it did indeed not sell as much, but dollar sales appeared to be leading its Tsusima by a similar amount, implying more profit on those sales (it is a $70 release compared to Tsusima’s $60 price tag).
As Piscatella points out, though, there is some important context to remember when comparing the two games. He stated:
Everyone was home in July of 2020, and gaming saw a significant boom in player count and engagement. At the time, the PS4’s installed base was about 20% higher than the PS5’s is today.
I look at it and say… it did somewhere between fine and great given all the factors at play, but it’s early.
The true test, as is outlined, is how well Ghost of Yotei continues to sell in the coming weeks and months. It is also unclear where Sony had expected or planned for the game to sell, which could make these numbers an underperformance or a much better one than we had expected. Ghost of Tsushima would eventually sell 13 million copies by 2024, meaning Ghost of Yotei still has a lot of ground to cover to be as successful as its predecessor, though many of those sales came later in its life, along with a Director’s Cut rerelease of the game on PS4 and PS5, meaning that Ghost of Yotei still has time to see additional sales. The title also has Legends, a multiplayer co-op mode, set to release in 2026, which will undoubty see an influx of new sales around this release date once we know it.
As for what’s next for Sucker Punch, the company will decide on a new project once Legends releases in 2026, and while throwing around ideas like a Ghost or Sly Cooper sequel, they have stated they will continue to work on one project at a time.
