Team Cherry, the developer behind Game of the Year nominee Hollow Knight: Silksong, has announced plans for the next year of the title, which includes a new expansion to the game, named Sea of Sorrow, coming sometime in 2026. This news was announced via a teaser trailer for the expansion, which doesn’t explain too much, but doesn’t need to, given the over seven million copies sold since the game was released in September.
This expansion will feature new areas, new bosses, new tools for Hornet to use, and more. What we can glean from the trailer, as well as a statement from Team Cherry, is that the further journey of Hornet will feature a nautical theme, with more info set to be announced closer to the expansion’s release next year.
While this news feels like enough to get fans excited on its own, there was more Team Cherry had to announce alongside this. Chief among these was that Hollow Knight, the original game from 2017, has received an update for the Nintendo Switch 2. Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will bring the first game more in line with the updates its sequel received on the platform, including high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and additional graphical effects. The update will be free for players who already own Hollow Knight on the Nintendo Switch when it also releases in 2026.
A public-beta of many of the improvements coming to the Nintendo Switch is available to players of the title on PC across Steam and GOG, where the enhancements are live now and will be fully released in the future as well. These include full 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratio support for the Steam Deck and ultrawide monitors. Similarly, these updates will be further outlined nearer to the release next year.
The final announcement made is for a set of mini-figures of the cast of Hollow Knight: Silksong, which were made in conjunction with Fangamer. These figures are available for preorder now through Fangamer, costing a discounted $112, down from $120, in the US currently for the complete set, ort $15 for individual figures. They are available to preorder in the EU/UK as well.
