What a ride this journey through Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has been so far. Gimmick bosses, monsters, and masters of martial arts have all fallen to your blade, not without some setbacks along the way. Well done. But this boss is proving to be your biggest challenge yet: Perfect Bride – Fang Ling.
You have arrived at the very bottom of the Snowfall Palace, only to find one of the most abominable bosses to grace Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, or any soulslike, for that matter. The story of Fang Ling is likely the most tragic one in the game, a poor woman snatched to become a bride, only to be subjected to the whims of the powerful to become the Perfect Bride, becoming a monster in the process. Before falling into the Wedding Hall for the fight, you can meet Fang Ling’s sister, who is frantically looking for her, unaware of her terrible fate. To free Fang Ling, you must defeat her in battle, which, if you are here that is proving to be more difficult than anticipated. Not to worry, as with a mix of grinding and learning their moveset, you shall overcome this test just yet.
Perfect Bride – Fang Ling’s boss fight is one of patience and perfectly placed attacks. Just like a dance, if you make the wrong move, it’s over. Her sword whirlwind attack is devastating and can easily kill you if you do not move out of the way. My first tip is to dodge forward, not backwards or to the side, as that is expected of the player to do. After her 6-move combo with her two swords, she will always do this long-reaching whirlwind attack that is best to keep your distance from before approaching.
Note that every single time before she lunges forward with one of her thrusts, a brief white glow will spark from her hilt, letting you know what her next attack is going to be to dodge precisely at that moment. After the snake spews her two magical orbs, she will almost always continue with the thrust attack and a brief window to get in a fair amount of damage. The scissors move must be avoided at all costs due to the fact that those will break your poise, and it will take several precious seconds for you to recover. Try to learn her moveset, which, while it might seem at the beginning it is impossible or too difficult, after seeing the patterns, a winning strategy will emerge.
Now, there is a second phase that deflated my hard-earned win. It turns out Fang Ling’s monstrous appearance was not done. Now known as Chimera – Fang Ling, you can rejoice by knowing that this snake-like beast that spews lasers has much fewer health points than the Perfect Bride. This monster’s moves are sloppy, and although it is likely getting to this stage in the battle will be a struggle in and of itself, it will be encouraging to know that the Chimera’s moves are limited, and plenty of windows of opportunity will abound. As long as you are not greedy, of course.
If you were looking downright for an easier way out rather than painfully learning Fang Ling’s moveset, the only other thing I can recommend is to grind in the next area of the game called the Avian Marsh and come back later. In this area, considering you are at an appropriate level, the enemies will give much more red mercury, and you can easily level up by about 10 to 15 levels to make much more damage, and find even more red feathers to improve your weapon mastery as well.
In this area, you will also find Bo Sorcerer, another challenging boss whom you can luckily
call for help in. Here is that guide if you have yet to struggle with her. Good luck!
