The twisted and unsettling Live-Action mystery game Immortality will arrive on PlayStation 5 this month, formerly being a console exclusive on Xbox as well as a day one Game-Pass title since August 2022. The game will officially arrive on January 23. Since its release the game has received a large amount of critical acclaim.
The title was directed by Sam Barlow who had similarly received praise for his two previous titles Her Story and Telling Lies. His newest title plays similar to those with the player sifting through live-action segments of the film, attempting to find clues to piece the bigger mysteries of the narrative together. In this case, the player is trying to discover the fate of the Actress Marissa Marcel (Manon Gage) after she disappears. Making the plot more bizarre, the actress participated in three films, none of which were ever released.
To achieve this goal, players will look over clips and behind-the-scenes elements from these unreleased movies to see if they can find clues to take them further down the rabbit hole. The “match cut” feature helps with this, allowing players to click on any object in a frame and quickly track down other clips where that item also appears. It was also confirmed that the game will be enhanced through the use of Dualsenses’s Haptic Feedback and audio speakers.
Fans of Sam Barlow’s previous games are sure to find a lot to enjoy in this game, including its unsettling visuals and its bleak yet strong storytelling. Alan Wake II fans might also wish to venture off the beaten path to this game, due to several similar elements in their story and atmosphere.
Immortality releases on PlayStation 5 on January 23 and is already available (if you have yet to play it) on the Xbox Series S/X, PC, and mobile via Netflix.
