Developer Ember Labs announces Kena: Scars of Kosmora during the PlayStation State of Play in February. It will serve as a direct sequel to Kena: Bridge of Spirits, which was initially released for PlayStation back in 2021. It was announced to be released on PlayStation 5 and PC, though only a tentative 2026 release window was given at this time.
Set several years after the first title, lead protagonist Kena is now an older and more self-assured spirit guide in the new setting of Kosmora, made up of large lands and multiple communities. Where the previous title focused on Kena’s relationship with the dead, this title promises to focus on a spirit guide’s relationship with the living.
Similar to the first game, the sequel appears to split its time between exploration and combat, as she works towards cleansing spirits similar to the previous title. In both cases, it appears that a wolf-like creature will join Kena along her journey. The trailer showcases Kena riding the animal as she traverses, as well as the fox acting independently of her influence to aid during combat.
The wolf will be one of many elemental spirits Kena will meet along her journey. These companions will travel with the player, as well as grow over time, becoming more capable as the player’s bond with them grows. These spirits will also be tied to different elements, giving some insight as to what kind of puzzles players might expect to encounter along their journey.
With a given 2026 tentative release date, hopefully, we will get more information and a release date soon. We look forward to seeing more of Kena: Scars of Kosmora when they do.
