Publisher Krafton has announced that it will be undergoing a reorganization of sorts as it plans to refocus itself as an “AI-first company.” The company has stated that it will be “prioritizing AI as a central and primary means of problem-solving,” as well as “fostering change in individuals and organisations, increasing company-wide productivity, and accelerating mid- to long-term corporate value growth.”
In a korean language statement released by the company, and translated by google AI, the company has outlined plans to undertake a “Complete” reorganization. It will also invest 100 billion won, or around $69.7 Million US dollars into a new gpu cluster ment for “sophisticated reasoning and iterative planning.” There will also be an addional $20.8 Million / $30 million million won that is earmarked specifically to retrain staff in the use of AI tools.
Krafton CEO Kim Chang-han stated:
Starting today, Krafton will automate work centred on Agentic AI and fully implement an AI-centred management system where members focus on creative activities and complex problem solving.
We will leap forward as a company that promotes the growth of members and expands the organisation’s areas of challenge through AI.
This strategy is in contrast to that of Microsoft, with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer stating earlier today that the use of AI in the company being used solely for security and Xbox Live, rather than infusing it into the creative process. Company wide though, Microsoft has layed off large numbers of employees across this year, with rumors suggesting large amounts of those jobs will be replaced through the use of AI.
Krafton is perhaps best know as the publisher for popular franchises PUBG and Subnatica. The companies most recent release was a competitor to The Sims Franchise, called Inzoi. Krafton also aquired developer Tango Gameworks shortly aftyer the company was closed by Microsoft despite the success of their game Hi-Fi Rush. They were specifically aquired to make a sequel to that title, which has been announced but has yet to be showcased.
