Warner Bros. Games has announced that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has had its release date moved. Instead of arriving on the previously announced date of May 29, the title will now arrive on May 22, a week earlier. This release date is for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 release planned for a later date.

This news was announced via a new trailer for the game, for which the studio captioned the video by stating, “You signaled. He answered.” The original release date was announced in December of last year, during the Video Game Awards, and was set for the previously held launch date for Grand Theft Auto VI, which was delayed until November of this year.

In an interview with IGN, Head of Production and Strategic Director at TT Games, Jonathan Smith, discussed the release window opening. He stated:

We knew we wanted to come out in the spring of this year. Look, I want to play that game (Refering to GTA VI), but we’re also really glad to have some space for people to play Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. We’re giving you an open city and a fantastic experience for all players. Which I thoroughly recommend.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will be the first LEGO Batman game since 2014’s true Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, despite the character and world having appeared since then. The game features a large open world and draws its narrative from the Christopher Nolan film series that followed the Caped Crusader. The more interesting part of the game is that both combat and exploration seem to draw heavily from the Rocksteady Batman Arkham series.

This will be TT Games’ first major franchise IP in about 4 years; their last release was Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, which saw release in 2022. Rocksteady’s last title was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a Live-Service title that underperformed and was taken offline a year later. This positions the latest TT Games title to fill a major void many gamers were hoping would be addressed soon.
