Developer Hanger 13 and publisher 2K have released a new trailer for the next entry in the long-running Mafia franchise, Mafia: The Old Country. Additionally, it was announced that players will be able to plan their trip to Sicily for August 8, 2025, on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
Alongside this trailer comes a statement from Hanger 13 president Nick Baynes, who described Mafia: The Old Country as being:
Focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion, and a refined take on the familiar Mafia gameplay.
That focus allows us to deliver a story that’s gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional. Embracing early 1900s era Sicily, this is a mafia origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi’s crime family.
The president of 2k, David Ismailer additionally stated that “We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments.” Based on these statement it appears the Mafia: The Old Country will be on the shorter side compared to its predecessor. This could be seen as a return to form, following in the style of the original Mafia title, something that the studio had previously compared this upcoming game too. The standard edition of the game however, will reflect this, with the game being $49.99 at retail.
Alongside the standard edition, a deluxe edition will be available for $59.99 and featuring a large amount of cosmetic items such as the “Lupara Speciale” Shotgun, “Vendetti Speciale” Pistol, and the “Padrino” Outfit to name only a few. It will also include bonus material such as an art book and original score.
News of this release date arrives just shortly after Grand Theft Auto VI announced their official release date of May 26, 2026. While it seems the two titles are not competing in the same space, the Mafia series was early to arrive on the scene in the open city crime game market, and has often been compared to the Grand Theft Auto series. While I’m sure this period of time was already planned for Mafia: The Old Country, this date has a lot more breathing room now than it had for the game to stand out.
