Mario Paint, the classic SNES game, is the latest title to be added to the Nintendo Switch Online. The classic game from 1992 focused on creativity in multiple forms, beyond just art, such as music and animation. Up until this point, despite being an often fondly remembered part of Nintendo’s history, unless you own the game on the SNES with a system to play it, it was unavailable for modern audiences to enjoy.
One of the more interesting components of the original title was that it allowed players to connect a mouse controller, since the game served a similar function to programs like Microsoft Paint. Given that Nintendo Switch 2 was promoted with a feature that allows for the Joy-Con 2 controllers to serve as mice, it makes sense that Nintendo would choose to revive this classic now.
This will not leave original Nintendo Switch owners out of the fun, however, with Nintendo stating that “a compatible USB mouse (sold separately)” can be connected to the dock, allowing players who have yet to upgrade to enjoy the game program fully as well. The Nintendo Switch 2 has already had a strong debut, selling 3.5 Million Consoles to date, suggesting there is already a strong install base to enjoy a game with Joy-Con 2 mouse support.
Nintendo Switch Online is a paid subscription service players can buy that gives access to a host of retro game catalogs, as well as online multiplayer for games like Mario Kart World or Splatoon 3. On the Nintendo Switch 2, players also have access to an exclusive GameCube library featuring four games currently, but with several others like Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness set to come to the service soon.
