Acting as the final announcement during the State of Play on June 4th, Guilty Gear developer Arc System Works announced their next fighting game, entitled Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, which is slated to release next year. This was followed by a look behind the development and just how the Marvel universe came to collaborate with the fighting developer, which was facilitated through Sony.
Several characters from the Marvel superhero universe were showcased in the trailer, beating the snot out of each other, including Star lord, Spider-Man, Storm, Iron Man, and Captain America. The game features the same blistering fast that Arc System Works has become known for, alongside the stylized 2D-3D art style. Stages will also offer Arc’s take on several locations that should be familiar to fans of the Marvel universe. Stage transitions will also make a dynamic return, allowing players to smash enemies out of the ring, through some debris, and onto a new screen.
One of the biggest twists with Marvel Tokon: Fighting Spirits is the four-person team that players build for each round, something that is usually capped at three, like in Marvel Vs. Capcom and Dragon Ball FighterZ. Players will be able to use these characters for special support abilities, as well as swap between their whole group in quick succession to unleash massive damage combos.
Arc System Works continues to be a mainstay developer as part of the Sony-owned Evolution Champion Series, having featured Guilty Gear Strive and Granblue Fantasy Versus on the main stage last year. Sony and Arc Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is set to release in 2026 and will be available for the PlayStation 5 and PC via both Steam and Epic Store.
