Microsoft has confirmed their plans for June, announcing that an Xbox Games Showcase will take place then and a Direct covering Obsidian Entertainment‘s upcoming sequel, The Outer Worlds 2. This follows their longstanding tradition to hold an event during June that focuses on upcoming games that will be coming to the Xbox platform, when the company typically took part in E3 Expo before the events cancelation and the rise in popularity of Geoff Keighly’s Summer Game Fest.
Microsoft will be holding the event on Sunday, June 8th. It starts at 10 am Pacific / 1 pm Eastern / 6 pm UK time. Microsoft has confirmed the event will offer a look at a mix of first-party titles “in addition to incredible new titles from our third-party partners across the globe.” The event will be immediately followed by a direct focus on The Outer Worlds 2, something that has been common for the events with previous directs focusing on Starfield and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
There are still some questions surrounding what games we can expect to see during the Showcase. Fable, the reboot of the beloved RPG, was initially planned for 2025 but was recently delayed to next year, with a minor amount of gameplay shown. My best guess, unless it is an early 2026 title, it will be the focus of next year’s direct, but this would still make a great time to fully showcase the game with a gameplay trailer.
Additionally, we have yet to see anything in game for Hideo Kojima’s upcoming exclusive OD, making this a good time to give us something in that regard. While we have seen the Perfect Dark reboot, it allegedly had some rough development prior to that showing and has been radio silent since. This would be a good time to remind players’s still real and coming. Other titles like the Clockwork Revolution, Ninja Gaiden 4, State of Decay 3, Gears of War: E-Day, Everwild, and Contraband are also on the list of games that could make an appearance at the event.
Bethesda, for its part, led a direct two years ago for their title Starfield, the first new RPG from the studio in over two decades. They announced shortly after that they would turn their attention back to one of these most popular franchises, The Elder Scrolls 6, which was announced at the same time as Starfield during E3 2018. While it only entered full production within the last few years, this might be a great time to give players some indication as to what they are in for when the game finally releases.
Rumors have also surrounded Microsoft about their next generation console, as well as native handheld device, both suggested to release some point in 2027. It might be too early to expect any showcase of these and their hardware, but its not like we haven’t been surprised with announcements of this nature.
Personally, I love to see all the new games I couldn’t have even fathomed would get announced at these events, and Xbox always has a few, like South of Midnight, which I am just starting to play. What are you excited to see? Drop a comment below.
