While Nier Reincarnation, the mobile game based on the popular Nier series, will shut down in April, Square Enix announced. The game’s final arc, entitled Finale: Reincarnation, will release on March 28. The game’s servers will then shut down down around a moth later, on April 29th.
In an official press statement, Square Enix stated:
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to our players for your patronage over the 2.5 years since we launched on July 28, 2021.
The publisher then went on to say they planned to continue adding characters and holding events until the end date arrived. While the title will end its run before its 3rd anniversary, it should be noted that it lasted longer than many other mobile spin-offs, especially some released by Square Enix themselves.
Nier Automata approaches its 7th anniversary with no sequel in sight. This is despite the title being more popular now than it was at launch, even spawning an anime adaption that received pretty solid reviews. Square Enix has stated that there are plans to revisit the franchise as long as the franchise chief, and bizarre enigma of a person, Yoko Taro is alive. Square Enix reviving the Mana series with Visions of Mana, after a decade between releases, might indicate more dormant franchises returning in the future.
Yoko Taro on the other hand has been active despite not working on a new Nier game. He created a new RPG franchise Voice of Cards which has spawned three games so far. They are a fun game that depicts the adventure as a D&D-style tabletop game where the map, characters, and attacks are depicted as cards. He also works on another mobile game, SINoALICE, which is set to shut its servers this month.
