Nintendo has announced an Indie World Showcase, which is set to showcase 15 minutes of games from indie developers that will see titles released on both the OG Nintendo Switch, as well as the recently released successor platform, Nintendo Switch 2. The event will be held on August 7, 2025, at 6 PM PT and will be watchable on Nintendo’s YouTube channel.
The event comes only a short period of time following another direct held by Nintendo, focusing on third-party publishers, at which Square Enix announced Octopath Traveler 0, as well as The Adventures of Elliot. While bigger publishers have gotten into the business of helping fund games that remain classified as indie titles due to their budgets, The Indie World showcases have always been a valuable tool for smaller teams to get much-needed exposure, especially on the Nintendo ecosystem.
The game everybody is hoping will make an appearance during this event is Hollow Knight: Silksong. Silksong, which has been in development for years, has become somewhat of a meme for being largely absent from events since it was announced. When Nintendo held its Nintendo Switch 2 announcement event earlier, the game was featured for a brief moment with a 2025 release window. Fans had hoped it might appear during the Partner Direct, but being an indie title, this might be a more apt venue. Often, it is so desired to make an appearance that events have to announce it will not beforehand, something Geoff Keighley has done multiple times.
There are still a few games Nintendo has in the pipeline for its console, such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Splatoon Raiders, but many fans are also hoping for a direct showcase of what kind of first-party roadmap exists beyond the Switch 2 launch window.
