Nintendo has officially announced that they will be holding their next major direct on August 27th. It will consist of two portions run back to back, consisting of events that should be familiar to Nintendo fans who often tune into Nintendo’s showcases The first will be a presentation of Nintendo Indie World while the second will be a Partner Direct.
In a press release from Nintendo, the company stated:
Join us on August 27 at 7am PT for an Indie World Showcase followed by a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase! The livestream, featuring both presentations back-to-back, will be roughly 40 minutes in total.
This direct will be held at 7am PT, or 10 ET/ 3pm BST. It will be available to watch through Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.
Along with the announcement came a disclaimer for fans to not expect any mention of the Switch follow-up console during this event. They stated:
Please note, there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during either of these presentations.
This is a fair thing to warn off, given that the console that will follow up the switch has been officially confirmed and has become a hotbed of speculation where third-party support is concerned. Most likely Nintendo will hold an event specifically for its new platform in the near future, as analysts anticipated a release in the first of 2025, which would follow a similar timeline to the Nintendo Switch should this prove to be true.
Nintendo partner directs primarily revolve around their third-party supporting developers, though smaller first-party titles have been known to appear. Developer Square Enix is also commonly seen during these events, having previously announced the Dragon Quest 3 Remake during one.
This being said, the Nintendo Indie World showcases will always have a special place for me. Several games were showcased during them such as Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Little Kitty, Big City, and Lorelei and The Lazer Eyes have gone on to be some of my favorites on the platform so I can’t wait to see what is shown.
