Pokemon with guns, and organ harvesting, the game Palworld had a massive weekend, selling 5 million copies in just 3 days This led the title to shoot up Steam’s most played list as everybody crafts, survives, and shoots up their Palword rivals.
The title was released on January 19th in early access across PC and Xbox, as well as being a day one Game Pass title. This surge in players caused it to overtake CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 to become the fifth-highest concurrent player count on Steam to date with 1,291,967 players. Palworld is also the most played game on the platform right now, beating out classic powerhouses such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG.
Several records go along with that massive player count as well. For starters, Palworld is the most-played Japanese-developed game on Steam, of all time. This is a record it took away from game-of-the-year-winning Elden Ring. Second, it is the second most played game on Steam, right behind PUBG which set its record back when it launched.
PocketPair, the Tokyo-based developer behind the game, has stated that the title has sold over 5 million copies in three days. This beats out even titles like The Last of Us Part II, which sold only 4 million in 3 days. Of course, Palworld is not a full-priced, AAA title, being sold at 26.99 vs 69.99.
Palworld is definitely on my list of games to play but unfortunately, I have had no time despite buying it. I have never been a big Pokemon fan and the current controversies of its similarity have seemed stupid, seeing as it’s not like Pokemon invented the genre anyway. On the Nintendo front, I have been busy with my review for Another Code: Recollections anyway. Additionally, I am currently finishing up my review for Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which will be published as soon as the review embargo lifts.
