The Persona 5 series, including the original 2016 release, the 2019 Royal re-release, and spin-offs such as Persona 5 Tactics and Persona 5 Strikers, has surpassed 13 million in total sales. This figure was disclosed via SEGA’s financial report for Q1 of their fiscal year, which will end on March 31, 2026. The company details in this that Persona 5 Royal, within its first year of sales, sold 1.03 million copies, with that number having grown to 7.25 million copies cumulatively.
The report reads:
We believe that concentrated investment to enhance title quality, brand strength reinforced through our transmedia strategy, and the worldwide reach of digital distribution have all contributed to the growth in repeat sales.
In addition to this, Persona 3 Reload, since launching on February 2, 2024, has sold over 2.07 million copies. Only recently did the title make the jump to Nintendo Switch 2, releasing in October, meaning that we could see that number rise further once we begin to see those numbers take shape. The Persona franchise, which has largely shrugged off the Shin Megami Tensei brand that it spun off from, has cumulatively hit 23.5 million units sold worldwide.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the Persona franchise. Developers have marked that this is an important occasion for fans of the franchise, with P-Studio stating there are “several projects in development”. While we know that Persona 6 is in development in some form, having been confirmed in 2021, there is no official word if we can expect an announcement of the next long-awaited mainline title to coincide with the moment.
We do, however, know that Person 4 Revival, a remake of the PlayStation era title set to modernize the game in a similar way to Persona 3 Reload, is in development as well, with the company releasing a teaser trailer during the Xbox Games Show during Summer Games Fest. While there is no release date for this title as of yet, Sega has confirmed they plan to release the game during their 2027 fiscal year, stretching from April 2026 to March 2027. Og course, this could be subject to change.
