The developer behind the upcoming 2.5D cyberpunk game Replaced, Sad Cat Studios, with Thunderful serving as the publisher, has announced that the title will be delayed yet again. While the game has been delayed before, this one comes just three weeks out from the scheduled release date of March 12.
Sad Cat has stated that the decision to delay the cyberpunk platformer was made following the response to its Steam Demo, with a new release date now set at April 14. In a statement shared by the studio via X, the team said:
As a small team working on our very first title, we’ve poured everything we have into this project. While the game is technically finished, reaching this final stretch has shown us that we need just a few more weeks to ensure the experience is exactly what you deserve. We want the version of Replaced you play on day one to be polished, stable, and true to the vision we’ve shared with you.
The team then goes on to say:
The response to our Steam demo has been the ultimate fuel for us. To be honest, putting it out there was nerve-wracking, but seeing your gameplay, reading your reviews, and hearing your excitement has been overwhelming in the best way possible. We are constantly reading your comments, and that feedback is helping us make the final tweaks that will make the full game shine.
Originally, Replaced was announced in 2021 during the Xbox & Bethesda showcase summer event that year. At the time, it was planned to be released at some point in 2022. This was one of several delays that the game would see since that announcement, with multiple following as the team continued to state their unwillingness to compromise on quality.
The title takes place in an alternate version of 1980s America, drawing some inspiration from the 182 cyberpunk film Blade Runner. In Replaced, the player takes the role of R.E.A.C.H., which is an artificial intelligence that has become trapped in a human body against its will. The player will need to traverse through platforming stages, fighting enemies through free-flowing and fast-paced combat, as well as move between the foreground and backgrounds of the city.
For players interested in trying out this unique-looking game, the Steam Demo is still available and has received a fair amount of praise. Replaced is set to release on the Xbox Series and PC. It will also be a day one with an Xbox Game Pass Title.
