Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold more than 9 Million Copies worldwide as of December 19th. This news was shared via X(formerly Twitter) by the development team behind the critically acclaimed survival horror title, thanking players of the game for their support. Launched in March of 2023, the game was reported to have topped the 8 million units sold mark in October of last year.
Despite these impressive sales numbers Resident Evil 2 Remake, the title that started off the Resident Evil remakes, still remains the best-selling game in the series at 13.9 lifetime sales. This number was reached in 5 years of total sales from when RE2R was initially released. Last year in June it was also announced that Resident Evil Villiage had itself achieved a record for the series, becoming the fastest-selling title in the series, passing 10 million in sales in 3 years.
Resident Evil 4 Remake has managed to hit comparable numbers in under 2 years of sales so it is possible we will see the game surpass both of these numbers in the upcoming years. To this point, only 3 titles in the long-running series have been able to top the 10 million sales mark, these titles being Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Resident Evil Village. Given the resurgence in popularity, Capcom has seen their refocus on reviving older IPs and returning Resident Evil to its horror roots following a string of action horror titles in the series, it is more a matter of when not if Resident Evil 4 Remake joins that list.
In its latest fiscal report, Capcom stated it had conducted “proactive promotional campaigns” to gain a wider understanding of key properties and franchises, such as Dragons Dogma and Resident Evil. This is with the goal of “series title sales,” something that they pointed to in the continued success of its Catalog titles as evidence the approach is working.
