According to a Bio for developer Shinji Mikami listed on the website for the upcoming Shadow of Damned Hella Remastered, it appears the developer has founded a company named Kamuy Inc. Beyond simply naming the studio, there is no other information given about what this company does, or even if he will remain in the video game industry.
Mikami left Tango Gameworks in 2023, the studio best known for developing The Evil Within, though is also known for titles Ghostwire: Tokyo and Hi-Fi Rush, the later releasing shortly before his departure. He founded the studio in 2010 before ultimately selling it to Bethesda and Zenimax. The studio then again changed hands in March 2021 when Zenimax, along with its subsidiaries, was sold to Microsoft.
Shortly after his departure in October of 2023, Mikami tweeted, āNow that Iāve broken the spell of non-competition on myself, I guess I should get to work.ā Previously, the game designer stated that he wanted to direct one more project before ultimately retiring, saying there was no shortage of ideas he had, adding they were not limited to horror games.
Most fans of his will probably know Mikami from his time at Capcom where he created the Resident Evil series in 1996. He would later go on to direct its later sequel Resident Evil 4, which saw the franchise take a genre-defining change in gameplay. He would also act as a producer on several franchises in the company such as Devil May Cry, Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney, and Dino Crysis where he also directed the first title. He would later depart and become a founding member of PlatinumGames.
Currently, he is involved in Shadow of The Damned Hella Remastered which is a remaster of the cult classic he produced in 2011 along with developer Goichi Suda, better known as Suda51. Suda, who was one of the writers on the title, has expressed interest in a potential sequel, preferably with Mikami also involved.
