Team Ninja’s open-world samurai title from 2024, Rise of The Ronin has been officially announced to be coming to steam on March 11th. This will mark nearly a year since the game was released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, having been published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, similar to Team Ninja’s Nioh from which this title draws many of its elements.

This news was announced via the official Team Ninja X(formerly Twitter) account, along with a trailer showcasing the narrative and gameplay. Several enhancements to the PC version were also announced during this trailer and include up to 8k resolution, 120 FPS, DirectX 12 support, Ray Tracing, and more. Rise of The Ronin already had well-designed options for customization, which were needed to cut the framerate dips when it was released on the PlayStation 5, so it is safe to assume these options will be on full display on PC.

Players who purchase the game on Steam before April 2 also receive several DLC items that were previously given out as pre-order bonuses for the PlayStation 5 version. These include the Hayabusa-ryu for katana, the Hayabusa-ryu for naginata, the Nioh-Ryu for katana, and the Aisu-ryu for katana. Two of those items, which harken back to their classic franchise Ninja Gaiden, take on new meaning in light of Team Ninja’s recent announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden II Black, both a welcome return to their flagship ninja Ryu Hayabusa.

Rise of The Ronin is set in Japan in 1863, a turbulent time of westward expansion as the country attempted to maintain its tradition while modernizing in the wake of Matthew Perry opening the ports to American ships. Players take the role of a masterless Samurai or Ronin as they are pulled into the BakuMatsu Rebellion, fought between the Samurai slowly being removed from importance, and the government set on progressing with the help of American ingenuity. In this, you will ally with famous figures like Matthew Perry and Sakamoto Ryoma as you play both sides to your own end.

In my review of the title early last year I gave it a 9/10, saying:

What you get is a brilliantly crafted world with tons of fun to be searched out on your quest. A narrative that delivers one of the best of shogunate politics, complete with engaging historical figures. A deep and customizable leveling and gear system that rewards experimentation. And above everything else, a combat system that refines what Team Ninja does best into a top-class action experience.
