In one of the more visually striking trailers showcased at Sony’s State of Play, developer Grasshopper Manufacture announced Romeo is a Deadman, a fast paced action games similar to the games Suda 51 has come to be known for. Their last major title, No More Heros III was released in 2021, when it released for the Nintendo Switch.
In Romeo is a Dead Man, players take on the role of FBI agent Romeo Stargazer, who is saved from death by way of a time paradox. Utilizing a unique mask called a “Dead Gear”, players will hunt fugitives through multiple universes. The trail itself starts with a quirky animated segment, featuring the main character getting killed by a monster that seemed to just knock on his door then attack when he answered. From there the Suda 51 absurdity was only amplifed.
One can immediately tell this is a Grasshopper Manufacture game through the franticly paced action and unique comedic flair. In-game, Romeo swaps seamlessly between guns and swords to take down his enemies in spectacularly bloody fashion. Players also appear to have access to an instant-kill special attack similar to those utilized in Grasshopper Manufacture’s previous game series, No More Heroes. From the brief gameplay showcased in the trailer, it appears that players will be traveling through a variety of unique environments, each of which promises to intrigue players.
Players will be able to begin slashing their way through time paradox when Romeo Is A Deadman releases in 2026 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. In addition to this, creator Suda 51 is involved in another game, entitled Hotel Barcelona, which he is developing in a long-requested collaboration with Swery65.
