During the Konami Press Start Live Showcase hosted today, it was announced that Bloober Team will be returning to the town of Silent Hill after remaking Silent Hill 2, now turning their attention to remaking the original title in the series.
Unfortunately, despite this announcement, there was very little in the way of information given, besides the fact that the title is currently in development. This news was revealed via a teaser trailer during the event, in which Konami and Bloober Team’s names were on screen with the title card for the game being showcased. Prior to this, in February, Bloober Team signed a deal with Konami to extend their partnership beyond the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which Konami has consistently stated exceeded expectations.
Initially, the series was released in 1999 as a rival to the then-popular franchise that coined the term survival horror, Capcom’s Resident Evil. Due to hardware limitations on the PlayStation, we ended up with several iconic elements of the series, such as the heavy fog that envelopes the player, and the terrifying radio to help players realize when enemies are nearby, even when they can’t see them.
Silent Hill 2 Remake was released on October 8th, 2024, for the PlayStation 4 and PC, selling one million units in only a few days. Weirdly, this was suspected to make this remake the fastest-selling game in the franchise to date, with Konami having as of yet not confirmed or denied this claim. Konami would confirm the game had hit the 2 million sales milestone in January of 2005.
Konami was largely absent in the development of video games for several years, focusing on mobile games, pachinko, and their soccer franchise, eFootball, with the company only recently showcasing a much bigger commitment to single-player gaming, positioning Silent Hill at the forefront. A new game in the franchise, Silent Hill f, is currently slated for September 25, 2025, and will be set in 1960s Japan. In addition, Silent Hill: Townfall from Annapurna Interactive is still in the works, with much less known about it. A film adaptation of Silent Hill 2 is also in production.
