Sony has confirmed that the company will be holding a State of Play showcase tomorrow on June 4th. In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony Interactive Entertainment content communication manager Tim Turi stated that fans of the platform will be getting”news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5,” also stating, “The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe.”
The event will be 40+ minutes long and will begin on June 4 at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 11 pm CEST. Sony has not given us much in the way of what we can expect at this point, however, the studio currently has Kojima Production’s Death Stranding 2: On The Beach releasing later this month, as well as Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei releasing later this year, both of which could easily make an appearance during this State of Play.
An additional PlayStation 5 exclusive that has been largely absent since its announcement is Insomniac Games’ Wolverine, which has received some leaks since its announcement several years ago, but nothing official from the studio has followed since. Sony also has multiplayer live-service titles, such as the rumored Horizon MMO or Bungie’s upcoming reboot of Marathon. Sony is also publishing Fairgames, which has seen its fair share of development troubles since it was announced in a State of Play two years ago, including the departure of studio founder Jade Raymond.
This State of Play comes only a day before Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley’s popular showcase that has come to be a sort of replacement for E3, which was officially ended in December of 2023, with the event having served as the major showcase for gaming and tech since it began in the 90’s. Sony usually holds a showcase later in the summer, not so close to the core events, so it will be interesting to see what big announcements. Xbox will be holding its showcase on June 8th, with other events such as the Future Games Show, PC Game Showcase, and my personal favorite, the Wholesome Direct, slated to be held over the next few weeks as well.
