Game of the Year contender and PlayStation exclusive Spider-Man 2 will be receiving a big update on March 7th, Insomniac Games has announced. This update is set to include the highly anticipated New Game+ feature, something that was absent at launch despite having been an integral part of the previous title.
Insomniac posted this news via X, adding to the announcement plans they intend to reveal a more detailed list of the content, including new cosmetics, that will be added closer to release.
New Game+ was originally planned for release before the end of 2023. This feature, along with others like Audio Descriptions “require more testing to ensure the quality is up to our standards.” In that delay announcement, Insomniac also stated plans to look into other features to “change the time of day, swap tendril colors, and replay missions.”
Insomniac is still hard at work on their latest game, which received heaps of praise for its storytelling and gameplay, even if it uses the bones of previous entries in the Spider-Man series as a base. Beyond updates, there has been no word on whether Spider-Man 2 can expect paid DLC expansions or a season pass yet, despite the first entry having three in total. Historically, that is an outlier for Insomniac but several narratives in the game seemed to be hinting at longer arcs to be explored.
Additionally, Insomniac is also hard at work on the development Wolverine, an expansion of their Marvel universe, set to release in 2024. Last year the company suffered a major leak with Wolverine being leaked and playable, which is a shame for any developer to have to experience. Nothing more has been shown for the game beyond a teaser trailer, but given how long we waited for more info on Spider-Man 2, we might not see gameplay from Insomniac until this summer at the earliest. They have made clear it is still on track for release.
