Minecraft just revealed its third major game drop of the year, The Copper Age! If you couldn’t tell, this drop will heavily focus on copper. After fans bashed copper for its uselessness and abundance, Minecraft responded by announcing this update just after adding copper golems and copper chests to experimental mode back in its July 2025 update.
The Copper Age
In this update, copper golems and chests will officially be released in the base game. Accompanying them are copper tools, armor, golem statues, chains, torches, lanterns, and nuggets. The copper tools and armor will be slightly weaker than iron, but stronger than stone.

Aside from the copper additions, The Copper Age will also bring shelves to the game. Shelves will be able to display up to three items each, making them perfect for decoration and storage. With them, you can swap the items on the shelf with what’s selected on your hotbar. This will allow for things like quick and easy loadout switching.

New dye art is also on the way. Keeping a few of them very similar to their old designs, they will all now have distinct shapes and a sort of palette underneath to identify the color more easily.

Golem Updates
Paying a sort of tribute to their 2012 addition, the iron golem, and a welcome for the copper golem, The Copper Age will add interactions between the two beloved mobs. One of said interactions will have an iron golem gifting a flower to a copper golem by placing it on their head
Copper golems will also carry on Minecraft’s newer oxidation mechanic and slowly oxidize over time until they turn into statues. Ceasing activity, the golem will freeze into one of four available positions: standing, sitting, running, or a star pose. Just like other copper blocks, you will be able to remove any oxidation and restore functionality to your golem by scraping it with an axe.

Afterword
With the official arrival of the copper golem, copper tools, copper armor, and decorations, The Copper Age is sure to make waves when it drops later this year. And after all the clamouring about shelves and useless copper, Minecraft finally responds! Capping off the 2025 year with another major update, we can only ponder what’s to come in 2026.
