After the disappointing announcement that Tales of Xillia would only release the first entry, fans of the series (read, me) were disappointed about the possibility of letting Xillia 2 stay in the PlayStation 3 purgatory. Thanks to the latest interview of Yusuke Tomizawa with Famitsu via ryokutya2089, we now know that Bandai Namco is toiling away on several projects, revitalizing the faith in the series’ much anticipated comeback.
While the series has not exactly been dormant, with The Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn DLC releasing in late 2023 and Tales of Graces f Remastered in early 2025, perhaps players want to know when the next big game is coming. In said interview, Tomizawa confirms that the new Tales Of is being actively worked on, but the announcement is still far off. If this means a late 2026 launch or beyond, your guess is as good as mine.
With the looming release of Tales of Xillia on October 30th, though, it is hopeful to hear that the darker sequel, Tales of Xillia 2, is planned to release soon as well, according to said developer. While Milla Maxwell and Jude Mathis’ journey could be considered completed with the first foray into the world of Rieze Maxia, the sequel proved to be more exciting. New enemies, plots, and several endings, several of which proved controversial to this day, will likely find a new audience on modern consoles.

Finally, the conversation also mentions that two other Tales of video games are also in the works. Whether those are Tales of Legendia and Tales of the Abyss (please), we will soon know. It all makes sense as a couple of years ago Bandai Namco asked players a pretty extensive survey about which classic games they would like to see remastered a couple of years ago. For now, we can rest easy knowing that Tales Of Xillia will finally be on players’ hands after only releasing for the PlayStation 3 in 2011.
