13 years after the popular tennis series Top Spin offered up its last serve, Publisher Take-Two has announced that the series will be returning with a new game, entitled Top Spin 2k25. Although no official release date was given, it is intended to be released at some point in 2024.
This announcement came through a teaser trailer for the title that simply offers that states the game is ‘coming soon’. That being said, as a Tennis fan, just the claim of the game is enough to get me excited.
The game is being developed by Hanger 13, best known for their game Mafia III. This fits with several rumors in 2023 that the Top Spin franchise would see a return with them attached. Besides this Tennis game, the Hanger 13 team is also developing an as-of-yet unannounced Mafia sequel, rumored to be set in Sicily.
Before this said developer had tried to pitch a new IP simply known by the code name Volt. $53 million was spent on that title before it was canceled several years into development. It has not been said if the cancelation was due to Take-Two’s desire to focus on existing properties, or if it was due to the lack of quality of Volt.
Despite not having a lot of information, the game is expected to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version isn’t outside the realm of possibility but as of yet is unknown.
