Ubisoft has announced an open beta for their upcoming pirate game Skull & Bones. This will hopefully shine a light at the end of the tunnel for fans excited to play out their pirate fantasies as the game has had an extremely troubled development since it was first announced at E3 2017.
This open beta will run between February 8th and 11th and will be available across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S/X. preloading for the game will begin on February 6th. This will be a great time to take the wheel and decide for yourself if this adventure will be for you
Last month Skull & Bones had its first closed beta, the first time a select player base was able to helm their ships and set sail. The experience was hit with mixed reviews with many players stating that there wasn’t much to do, or that it wasn’t worth the very long wait.
Ubisoft stated via a press release:
Be ready to raise the anchor and test your mettle. Explore the Red Isle, Coast of Africa, Open Seas as well as the East Indies during this open beta to meet the different factions present in-game and face them peacefully or turn against them in combat.
The beta will cap mission progression at ‘Exterminate The Rat’, though parts of the world will be accessible outside of doing missions. Character progression will be capped at Brigand (tier 6 rank 1). Additional content will include side contracts, repeatable contracts, and bounty contracts to name a few.
Ubisoft additionally stated:
But do go off the beaten path and forge your pirate adventure! Once you have reached the Brigand rank, your Infamy rank will remain at that level, but you are free to keep on playing to your heart’s content for the rest of the duration of the Open Beta. You’ll have plenty of loot to hunt down, silver to gain, and activities to complete. Make full use of your Logbook and the Journal in the Map tab to pin and track activities!
Ubisoft has also released a roadmap detailing Skull & Bone’s first year of content, which can be watched here. This will include battles with pirate lords, as well as limited-time events just to name a few.
After many, MANY delays, a controversial development, and 3 project restarts Skull & Bones finally looks posed to unfurl its sails on February 16th, 2024.
