Sega and RGG Studio have announced that Virtual Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., the latest version of their popular fighting game series, has been announced for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, as well as the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This announcement comes several months after this version was initially released on Steam earlier this year. This news was shared during a Virtua Fighter direct on Sunday.
During this announcement, Virtua Fighter project producer Seiji Aoki stated:
I know we’ve kept you waiting, our Steam release Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is finally coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Since Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.‘s launch, we’ve heard your requests for multiplatform support via the official Virtua Fighter Discord and other channels. We on the development team want to give users on all platforms the opportunity to enjoy Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O., so we are happy to bring you this announcement.
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is additionally set to include cross-play support, allowing players to participate in the larger community no matter where they play. The rollback functionality present in the Steam version of the game will also be present in every version of the game. They made clear that more content will be included in these versions, making this “much more than a simple port,” though these updates will be announced in a future event.
Only a little information on the upcoming Virtua Fighter 6 was shared, which up to this point has only showcased early tech demos showcasing incredibly cinematic fighting gameplay. This would be a massive departure from previous entries, should this gameplay be accurate to any official release, though at this point, there are still some questions as to how feasible this will be. While a little from the game was shown, everything that was shown was framed around the content that had already been shown. RGG Studio is also handling the development of the game, alongside the development of their new IP Project Century, as well as whatever is next for the Like A Dragon universe.
No release date was offered for when we can expect to play Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.
