EA has announced that it will officially reveal the next entry in the long-running military shooter, Battlefield, this week. It appears that the official title will be Battlefield 6, with the game set to receive its first trailer on July 24th at 8 AM PT. This news comes from a YouTube listing that popped up on the official Battlefield channel, with a scheduled stream listed for that date and time. Beyond that, the listing is lacking in more concrete details outside of some artwork depicting four soldiers overlooking a battle in a metropolitan-like area with vehicles like helicopters and ships, present as well.
Battlefield 6 was announced way back in 2021, or at least EA’s intent to continue developing the series with confirmation that a new one is planned for development. This was largely in response to the release of Battlefield 2042, which was released the same year to a negative reception, with the game suffering a plethora of bugs and glitches and a lack of a story mode. There were also a lot of missing features when the title launched, all of which led to the game underperforming at the time. The game has since seen many of its problems addressed, but the launch hurt the title’s chances at a serious recovery.
This next entry in the series has seen some rumors starting in 2024. In that time, some concept art has leaked that seemed to confirm that this entry would be set in the present day, or modern adjacent, rather than the sci-fi setting of the previous game, or the World War setting of the titles previous to that.
Currently, Battlefield 6 is expected to release within the fiscal year, which ends in March of 2026, though EA CEO Andrew Wilson has stated the company is willing to move the planned release based on the release windows of other games, in particular Grand Theft Auto VI.
