Debuting in June, the Nintendo Switch 2 has become the fastest-selling hardware in the gaming space ever, helping to raise game spending to a new monthly record. This is all according to a monthly report released by Circana. Spending on the hardware itself was a massive 249% year-over-year, thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2 consoles’ launch, reaching $978 million and surpassing, by a lot, the previous record set in June 2008 of $608 million.
In total, the Switch 2 sold a total of 1.6 million units in the U.S. during its launch month, beating out the previous record that was set by the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, of 1.1 million units. It should come as no surprise that the Switch 2 was the best-selling console of the month in both units and dollar sales.
In terms of game sales on the Nintendo Switch platform, Mario Kart World, the biggest first-party title released alongside and exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, was the best-selling game of the month, which should also have been expected. It was stated that 82% of players who purchased a Nintendo Switch 2 also purchased the game. A bundle of the console with Mario Kart World was also sold alongside the launch of the console. Following behind are Cyberpunk 2077 and Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, both of which launched alongside the new platform. Across the entirety of platforms, Elden Ring Nightreign topped sales charts in June for the second month in a row.

* Indicates that some or all digital sales are not included in Circana’s data. Some publishers, including Nintendo, do not share certain digital data for this report.
It should be noted that Nintendo does not provide digital sales, so games like Mario Kart World and Cyberpunk 2077 might not be reflective of their actual sales numbers when you factor those in. Deltarune, which launched digitally alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, topped sales charts in June as well, but with no physical sales and only a $25 price point, it is equally not reflected.
