After much speculation and rumors, with only some promotional art and a statement to show for it, Ubisoft has finally confirmed when they will officially unveil Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The company will be holding the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced: Worldwide Reveal Showcase later this week on Thursday, April 23, at 9 am Pacific / 12 pm Eastern, joking that this will be a full reveal for “gaming’s worst kept secret.”
Fans who have been waiting for this moment will be able to tune in via YouTube to see just what this remade version of Ubisoft’s seminal pirate adventure will have to offer them. One thing that this announcement does hint at, however, is the removal of the original multiplayer mode, stating that this is “the iconic solo pirate adventure.”
While the project has been rumored for a while now, the name Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced was first spotted back in December of last year, popping up on a European ratings board listing. Internal leaks and even a statement from the original’s lead voice actor, who is expected to reprise his role, all predated that, so it’s not like we didn’t know it was coming. A recent leak places the game’s release date in July, something we might get confirmation for come Thursday.
Rumors have suggested we can expect some significant improvements over the original entry, such as completely overhauled visuals and higher framerates. Upgrades to gameplay are also expected to bring it in line with the most recent entry, Shadows, with the game most likely set to use Animus Hub, formerly Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
One device change that has been rumored is the removal of the modern segments, keeping all the action in the past, similar to the last two entries in the series, Mirage and Shadows. In fairness, Black Flag has one of the weakest present-day segments, coming off of the Desmond trilogy and being unsure of the direction planned for this portion of the game. It’s ironic how much this direction is disliked now, given how vocal support for cutting these segments was at the time.
