The Adventures of Elliot is a love letter to classic top-down adventure games. A new update improves it significantly.
The Adventures of Elliot is the latest Square Enix title to have a successful launch. Raved by critics and players alike, its A Link to the Past inspirations are a hit among fans of the genre. As top-down adventure games go, its puzzles, dungeons, and story are worth playing. Earning a 9 in our review, we did not mince words, stating, “The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a new gold standard.” One notable criticism that arose with players is the fact that the fairy chiming in to help would sometimes talk too much.
Positive Changes
With its latest update, this feature can now fully turn it off. Previously, the only settings available were to lower the frequency of support character voices. Now, Princess Heuria and the Fairy Faie that accompany Elliot on his journey through Philabieldia can be completely muted. Because the tutorializing elements proved a little too handholdy for certain players, this will be a certain breath of fresh air for some. Other improvements included in the update are minor bug fixes and fixed FPS drops on PC.
Moreover, producer Naofumi Matsushita from Team Asano stated in an interview they did not expect this player feedback. “Since we had been involved with the game’s development for such a long time, we had naturally grown very fond of Faie ourselves. In hindsight I think we may have become a little biased because of that. We’ve since added an option that allows players to lower the frequency of her dialogue.”
As a part of the player base deemed the lower frequency still not enough, this new mute setting to be will be of much use to them going forward. The Adventures of Elliot is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
