Spine Gets Story Trailer and Release Window During Future Games Show

Developer Nekki showcased another trailer for their upcoming action game, Spine, during the Future Games show Today. Announced back in 2021, the title is a gun-fu action beat-em-up that should resonate with fans of the film franchise John Wick or the kung fu fighting title Sifu. While players have been waiting a lengthy time for this one, we did not get an official release date, but the developer did give us a much more concise time period for when we can expect to start kicking kneecaps and blasting faces.

Spine puts players in the role of Redline, a street artist with a cybernetic enhancement known as a spine. It gets that name because, yes, it looks like a spine. She will take on an autocratic AI regime, fight bots, slay street gangs, and more in an attempt to rescue her captured brother. To do so, the player will participate in fast-paced and close-range combat complete with melee and bullets,

The trailer for Spine gives a lot more setup for the narrative, going over the dystopian and cyberpunk setting. As well as letting the player know what that will mean for them. By the end of the trailer, though, we do get all the action-packed violence that has placed this title on many a gamer’s radar. Obviously, a lot of this is more of the same, but it continues to look better the closer we get to release.

    SPINE features:

    • Movie-Like Experience – SPINE puts players inside the action with a dynamic combat camera that makes every fight feel like a movie, without ever stealing control from players.
    • Innovative Combat – A thrilling fusion of cinematic gunplay and Freeflow Gun Fu beat ’em up. Dive into the chaos of SPINE‘s combat, where every move is a dance between gunfire and raw, close-quarter bullet mayhem. It’s not just a game; it’s an artistic canvas for your own style of destruction.
    • Unrivaled Atmosphere – Dive into an action-packed narrative set against the backdrop of a captivating cyberpunk world. Explore the contrast between the gleaming, utopian facades and the gritty, decaying alleyways, as each location becomes a stage for adrenaline-fueled gunfights.
    • Gripping Narrative – Embark on a gritty journey into the near-future with Redline, a rebellious street artist, and her AI companion, Spine — a combat implant with a mind of its own. Together, they stand against an oppressive AI regime, and every fight they have sends ripples through the streets they navigate, changing the lives of the people they meet.

Speaking of release, as stated above, we did not get an official date. The trailer, however, does state that we can expect to load our weapons sometime in the summer of 2027. That window is for the title’s release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. We know a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is planned, though it wasn’t stated when we can expect that version.
