Capcom has announced that they plan to pull the Dragon’s Dogma II microtransactions from sale before the release of the title’s Dark Arisen expansion. The company stated that they will be discontinuing the sale of the Deluxe Edition through digital storefronts, as well as removing “certain DLC items” from sale by June 24. Alongside this, the digital version of the base game will also receive a permanent discount to its base price.
In a post via social media, Capcom listed the specific Microtransactions that will be pulled from sale across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Steam. These include:
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 Deluxe Edition
- A Boon for Adventurers -New Journey Pack
- Harpysnaresmoke Beacons – Harpy Lure Item
- Heartsfelt Pendant – A Thoughtful Gift
- Ambivalent Rift Incense – Change Pawn Inclinations
- Makeshift Gaol Key – Escape from Gaol
- Art of Metamorphosis – Character Editor
- Port Crystal – Warp Location Marker
- Wakestone – Restore the Dead to Life
- 500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
- 1500 Rift Crystals – Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
- 2500 Rift Crystals- Points to Spend Beyond the Rift
Dragon’s Dogma II, which was predominantly well-received by players and critics at the time of its release in 2024, recieved a large amount of criticism for the inclusion of Microtransactions at launch, of which there were over 21. The prices ranged on these items from, say, $2.99 for the explorer’s camping kit, which allowed the player to set up camp (and is still available to purchase), to $0.99 Gaol keys that allow escape from the game’s prison but break after a single use.
All of the items you could purchase with real-world money played a significant role in the game, but were also found in abundance by actually playing the game. Despite this, there were also a large number of players who felt purchasing items was unnecessary. The inclusion of DLC sku’s for most in-game items was also not new, with the original Dragon’s Dogma similarly having these options. Critics of this pointed to the sheer number, as well as how they cheapened some challenges in the game. In response to this, modders made every one of these items unlimited in the game.
Dragon’s Dogma II: Dark Arisen was announced during the Nintendo Direct last week and shares its name with the expansion released for the original game. We now know that alongside this expansion, the base game will be arriving on Nintendo Switch 2. The Expansion will also be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
