Pokémon Legends Z-A, the upcoming Sequel to the franchise spin-off Pokémon Legends: Arceus, from Game Freak and Nintendo, has received a release date of October 16, 2025. Pre-orders for the game will begin on June 5th, the day the Nintendo Switch 2 releases, and will feature both a Nintendo Switch and a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game that will both release the same day.
The Pokémon Legends title featured a departure from the traditional gameplay Pokémon fans were used to. Instead of taking turns in combat, these featured real-time combat in which the Pokémon ran around the battlefield and used their abilities, while the trainer was also visible and involved rather than just off-screen issuing orders. While the first time under the Legends name was a prequel, inspired by feudal Japan, this time players will be in the more modern setting of Lumiose City.
We learned earlier this year that the Z-A in the title refers to a ranking system that the player will be participating in, attempting to beat trainers at each rank to rise from the lowest rank of Z all the way to rank A. Even if entirely contained in Lumiose City, there will still be areas where Pokémon congregate so you can catch and train a wide variety, as well as other activities within the city to take part in.
Pokémon Legends Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 edition will feature improved framerates as well as graphical enhancements over that of the Nintendo Switch version. They will be available for $59.99 for the Nintendo Switch version and $69.99 for the Nintendo Switch 2 version. It will also have a $10 upgrade available should you buy it for the Nintendo Switch and want to upgrade later.
