Footage and artwork have emerged for Star Wars: Magellan, a scrapped Star Wars action RPG where players would have been able to play as either a Jedi or a Mandalorian. This comes courtesy of publication MP1st, which has posted the first publicly seen artwork and gameplay for the title, which was sourced from the portfolio of an artist who worked on the project while it was in development
The developer behind Star Wars: Magellan was Echtra, which was based out of San Francisco until the developer’s closure last year. It was set up by former Blizzard Developers, releasing the game Torchlight III in 2020, before being bought by Zynga in 2021. The studio would not ship another game following this. We now know that, at least somewhere between 2021 and 2025, the developer was attached to a Star Wars game that would have been published by Zynga, which previously published and developed Star Wars: Hunters in 2024.
Magellan, for its part, seemed to have a lot of ambition behind it. It is described as having two playable classes, with players getting to be either a Jedi or a Mandalorian, and a bond system for NPC party members, as well as loot-and-shoot gameplay. The released gameplay showcases a Twi’lek Jedi and a Caped Mandalorian, both of which having generic titles. We know that Magellan would have co-op and multiplayer, so that is most likely what is being showcased in function.
Unfortunately, Star Wars: Magellan will join the illustrious halls of lost Star Wars projects that have been lost to time despite showing immense promise. This club includes Amy Hennig’s Project Ragtag and LucasArts’ Star Wars 1313, to name a few. And somehow Star Wars: Eclipse isn’t one of these… Yet. Despite this, there are a few titles set in a galaxy far, far away that should at least excite audiences.
Star Wars: Galactic Racers, a narrative-driven racer in the vein of the PlayStation 2 pod racing title, is slated for October 6, 2026, for consoles and PC. For fans hoping for an RPG Star Wars title, Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a spiritual successor to the classic BioWare Old Republic franchise, is also in development, with no timeframe as of yet. It is being held by the director of the BioWare games, Casey Hudson.
